I started level 3 repairs on Samsung devices working on warranty devices at a factory that handle Samsung’s in-house repairs. My training was extensive in terms of fidelity and diagnosis methods.
Outside of authorised repairs for Samsung, and since Samsung have made their phones less repairable, at Mobile Solutions we repair a much wider range of devices, from Out of Warranty phones and tablets to laptops, desktops, games consoles, controllers and wearables.
Level 3 board repairs are generally a last resort option for an otherwise unusable device, any rework of components on a circuit board can prove a risk as manufacturers don’t design their devices to be repaired. Manufacturers prefer customers to buy a new device so it’s generally worth an attempt before replacing the device. This provides a two-fold benefit in regard to sustainability and cost.
Many devices have what’s often known as Signature Faults, such as failures in the Touch IC (Integrated Circuit) on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, or the Audio IC on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. These faults are generally caused by fundamental design flaws in the device which are often not acknowledged by the manufacturer. They are only fixed under warranty in a relatively small window of time, without any redesign or fix applied to devices still being sold and this may be at risk of developing the fault once the recall period is over.
At Mobile Solutions we still fix a large number of these faults on certain phones, with a high level of success. There has been much research put into the fix by the repair community worldwide, thus building a wealth of communal knowledge that is vital for us to provide a high level of service to our customers. We love to keep devices in circulation which would otherwise be disposed of or forgotten in a drawer.
